Customer Service Code Enforcement

code enforcement charlotte nc

A shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday highlights why some police departments across the United States have called on lawmakers in recent years to stop relaxing gun laws. The incident, which left four officers dead and several others wounded, happened as police attempted to arrest a man for possession of a firearm by a felon. The danger code enforcement officers face is illustrated in this sad video in West Valley City, UT. Sadly, a code enforcement officer was shot and killed for simply doing their job.

The only exceptions are if a violation pertains to an imminent threat to public health, safety, or welfare or imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources. Three other Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers who responded to the scene were shot while trying to rescue the wounded officers. You will need to submit a Credit Refund Form and have your permit cancelled. Once this is done, come to the Code Information and Resource Center (CIRC) with a copy of your APPROVED PLANS, or the project number of the approved project, and a completed Building Permit application.

Let’s Learn About Code Enforcement in Local Government

Cities and law enforcement agencies turn to code enforcement to handle these types of issues. Normally, prostitution is considered a crime; however, it is hard to prove and hard to enforce in many of these establishments. Therefore, code enforcement uses licensing, zoning, building regulations and professional standard ordinances to address or even shut down these illicit establishments. Here’s a look at some of the top stories trending online today, April 30.

These code officials can answer your code questions and offer guidance as you try to plan your project from conception to submittal. After your project is submitted for plan review or in the field for inspections, this team can still assist, however, the interpretations of your Plans Examiner or Field Inspector will take precedent. Furthermore, code enforcement always has to come up with new solutions to address new concerns, and we have to coordinate with different departments in a jurisdiction. Examples include, but are not limited to, public works, licensing, fire departments, building, finance, mayoral executive offices, city attorney, engineering, police or planning. There is no unique standard where code enforcement belongs, because we work with all. But gun violence is putting pressure on their relationship with Republican lawmakers, who are often proponents of looser gun laws.

Interior Demolition permits for commercial work are issued through the CIRC. Interior Demolition is the demolition of interior components that do not affect rated assemblies and/or load bearing walls. Customers will need to complete a building permit application, include sub-contractors for any trade (E, M, or P) that has elements also being removed, and submit this application to the CIRC online or in person. There is NO new work, removal of structural components, or build back allowed to occur under the permits issued for interior demolition. Additional information regarding the demolition permitting process may be found here. That means funding them - so they have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe.

And it means taking additional action to combat the scourge of gun violence. Leaders in Congress need to step up so that we ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law. It is possible to finish a room in the basement or the attic if it can be done in conformance with the current NC residential codes.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908. For much of U.S. history, most states lacked laws around carrying concealed weapons. In the past 50 years, many have relaxed concealed handgun restrictions. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Monday night an officer who had been injured in the shooting had died.

Earlier today, four brave law enforcement officers - including a Deputy U.S. Marshal - were killed in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us. And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded. The profession itself does not get as much recognition as it should for the amount of difference we make in the community. It is now more about regulating nuisances that hinder a community. As new laws emerge and new problems appear, there has to be a group that addresses these issues. The task force including U.S. marshals was trying to arrest a man for possession of a firearm by a felon.

This type of project may go through the Small Commercial Project review process. The drawings should include an Appendix B, a site plan, and details of the ramp, handrails, etc. Find appropriate permitting requirements for your construction project. As much as I would like to take a stab at writing a blog about code enforcement, it is too complex to accomplish without assistance. Jennings said a total of eight officers were shot, four with the U.S.

The task force was fired on by the wanted suspect as they approached the house and the man was killed in the front yard, Jennings said. Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, who was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony to elude out of Lincoln County. During a news conference Monday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was called to a home to serve a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is headquartered in Charlotte and comprised of 70 federal, state and local agencies.

Generally, code enforcement officers are quasi law enforcement personnel who work for local or county government departments. We enforce their jurisdiction ‘s established code requirements, ordinances, and zoning laws, as well as any adopted codes such as state codes or model codes. Code enforcement officers frequently receive complaints from citizens, other city departments and outside agencies. We investigate those complaints and if they confirm violations, then we will work with property owners to ensure that they comply with local regulations.

In March 2007, two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers were killed while responding to a domestic dispute by someone not directly involved in the fight. Demeatrius Antonio Montgomery is serving a life sentence in the killings of officers Jeffrey Shelton and Sean Clark. One other member of the task force, which is made up of federal agents and other officers from across the region was injured.

But encouraging armed self-defense also creates deep expectations in the U.S. that gun ownership is absolute, experts say. It also makes it hard to tell good guys from bad guys – especially when police can no longer confront citizens wearing guns in public. Between 2015 and 2021, the number of concealed-carry permit holders in the United States grew from 14 million to 21.5 million.

This function may also be accomplished through the contractor account. The new permit application must reference the previous permit number that was cancelled and the approved project number. Code Enforcement is proud to work with municipal and state authorities on all local construction projects. In most cases, customers will need to work with municipal, state, or other county agencies to clear holds and receive a permit of certificate of occupancy for their projects. Appropriate permits are required for Commercial Work related to any new construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, movement to another site, removal or demolition of any building. All cheerleaders and football players were told to be back at the gym at 6pm to view the roster of those who made the team. When we returned to the gym to view the roster, I took off running to the door certain my name would be on the list. I scrolled through the names very fast, but did not see my name. I decided to slow down and look carefully b/c I must have passed my name, but my name wasn’t on the Cheerleader roster.

I was ecstatic to hear my name; “Erica” called for the varsity cheer team. After college I began working and pursuing a career for myself. Because of my love for children I decided to look into volunteer work involving the youth. In 2009 I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach for C-Meck Cowboys. Thereafter, I became Head Coach and volunteered my services for 5yrs. There’s a quote that states, “When you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life”.

I was raised in a small town called Stanley, NC. I was 8 years old and b/c of my athletic capabilities at a young age, I assumed there was no sport I couldn’t do. My mom signed me up for cheer and I went to every practice eager to learn the material, as I was determined to make the team. I practiced so much around the house; my parents would yell, “sit down”. I went in the gym with 4 other girls and put on a show, so I thought. I left out the audition feeling really good and excited about becoming a cheerleader.

If a bill is particularly pressing, it may be considered right away. The first section provides that all legislative powers granted by the Constitution  shall be vested in what we call “Congress,” which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives (House). Article I is about the legislative branch of federal government. The approval of the Senate and the House of Representatives is required for a bill to become law. Both Houses must pass the same version of the bill; if there are differences, they may be resolved by a conference committee, which includes members of both bodies.

Not for any campaign/campaign-related political party purpose. Members are prohibited from directing any unsolicited mass communications outside of the district from which elected. Therefore, official expenses that relate to advertising joint virtual meetings must be separately accounted for and charged to the MRA of the Member into whose district the mass communication was delivered. Therefore, official expenses that relate to promoting joint events must be separately accounted for and charged to the MRA of the Member into whose district the mass communication was delivered.

Refusal to cooperate with a congressional subpoena can result in charges of contempt of Congress, which could result in a prison term. A bill is first considered in a subcommittee, where it may be accepted, amended, or rejected entirely. If the members of the subcommittee agree to move a bill forward, it is reported to the full committee, where the process is repeated again. Throughout this stage of the process, the committees and subcommittees call hearings to investigate the merits and flaws of the bill.

Fellows not employed by the House may use existing resources but cannot be reimbursed from House appropriated funds. If a fellow incurs an expense as a result of work performed for the Member, the fellow may either be reimbursed by the fellow’s sponsoring entity or a Member may use personal funds as authorized under House Rules. “Fellows” perform services in a House office on a temporary basis as part of an established mid-career education program while continuing to receive the usual compensation from his or her sponsoring employer. Both arise from the rapidly increasing Latino population, particularly in the U.S. southwest. And both raise questions that the Supreme Court has yet to resolve conclusively. Political campaign training can teach you the essential skills to run a successful campaign, such as fundraising, messaging, and voter outreach. The role of political fundraising in political parties has increased significantly in recent years due to the rising cost of running politics. You need campaign volunteers who can help you with everything from Resource mobilization to voter outreach. Political advertising is a crucial way to get your message out to the public and increase name recognition.

Many state Republican lawmakers sharply objected on Wednesday to the push to undo the Civil War-era ban that has roiled the politics of the state after the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that it is enforceable. Two Republican senators have already said they will support the repeal effort, signaling the House bill should pass that chamber and then go to Gov. Katie Hobbs' desk to be signed into law. The Senate on Wednesday separately conducted a second read of its own abortion ban repeal bill, without objection, setting up a parallel vote -- though that is likely moot now because the House bill has been approved. Members may request a URL for a CMO, provided that the request complies with the CMO domain name regulations issued by the Committee. For purposes of this section, a “slogan” is a motto or catchphrase representing a product, company, campaign or political party whereas a “phrase” is an idiom or expression that relays a meaning. The MRA can be used to purchase informational and educational federal government publications of nominal value to be distributed to constituents, such as pocket constitutions and the U.S. Capitol Historical Society publications (including calendars). In Washington, DC, the MRA cannot be used to purchase furniture and items that are readily supplied by the CAO and AOC. Carpet and draperies are provided by the CAO at no cost to offices every seven years.

The allocation of seats is based on the population within the states, and membership is reapportioned every 10 years, following the decennial census. House members are elected for two-year terms from single-member districts of approximately equal population. The Supreme Court rightly rejected this argument in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona (2013). Justice Scalia’s opinion for the majority surveyed the history of Article I, agreeing that it allows states to set voting qualifications, but holding that Congress has broad power to regulate the manner of conducting congressional elections. Through the NVRA, Congress properly exercised this authority.

The actual Enumeration shall be madewithin three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the UnitedStates, and within every subsequent Term of tenYears, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Ageof twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, andwho shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shallbe chosen. Our editors will review what you’ve submitted and determine whether to revise the article. With the renewed focus on voting rights in this century, new questions regarding the meaning and import of Article I, Section 2 have arisen. Two recent developments illuminate the challenge of applying the Constitution to a world that is very different from the one in which the Framers lived. Both concern the relationship between Article I, Section 2 and another provision of the Constitution.

Lump sum payments may be for services performed during more than one month. From 1910 to 1975 committee and subcommittee chairmanship was determined purely by seniority; members of Congress sometimes had to wait 30 years to get one, but their chairship was independent of party leadership. The rules were changed in 1975 to permit party caucuses to elect chairs, shifting power upward to the party leaders. In 1995, Republicans under Newt Gingrich set a limit of three two-year terms for committee chairs. The chairman's powers are extensive; he controls the committee/subcommittee agenda, and may prevent the committee from dealing with a bill. The senior member of the minority party is known as the Ranking Member.

Back in 1787, the United States was much smaller and predominantly agrarian. The norm was that only white, male landowners could vote in state legislative elections—and therefore in U.S. After the Civil War, African Americans were finally recognized as equal citizens through the enactment of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, yet their civil and political rights were brutally suppressed for almost another century.

The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to enact legislation and declare war, the right to confirm or reject many Presidential appointments, and substantial investigative powers. He is a former appellate and senior judge, district attorney general, and the Attorney General of Tennessee. During debates, a member may speak only if called upon by the presiding officer.

The “one person, one vote” rule applies with special rigor to U.S. Later cases establish that congressional districts must be closer to mathematical equality than state legislative districts, which are subject to the one person, one vote requirement under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. While state legislative districts are generally presumed to be constitutional if their total deviation from population equality is less than ten percent, the Court has rejected even the tiniest departures from population equality in drawing U.S.

The Arizona for Abortion Access campaign has been working to get a potential constitutional amendment on the state's ballot to enshrine abortion access. Caribbean Princess Cruise Reviews 2023 UPDATED: Ratings of Caribbean Princess

cruise critic princess board

First, you have to pay a higher rate in order to tuck it on, and then it costs money on top of that. In the US Princess has fully refundable deposits most of the time. Now, other lines like X and RCI do not usually have refundable deposits, unless you pay a lot more for it.

Related Cruises

For a restful night, aboard Caribbean Princess your best bet is a cabin on deck 9 (Dolphin), 10 (Caribe), 11 (Baja) or 14 (Riviera). Additionally, and as appealing as they may sound, beware of the Caribbean Princess’ Grand Suite, the Owner’s Suite and the Penthouse Suites on deck 12 (Aloha), as they’re right below the Terrace Pool and may experience some noise. Cruising has often been referred to as a lifestyle, and nowhere is that celebrated more than here at Cruise Critic. We’ve got a passionate community of members (and editorial staff) that eat, sleep, and breathe all things ship.

How much does it cost to go on Caribbean Princess?

When we weren't listening to music, a movie under the stars was always a great way to spend the evening. The tech is pretty cool (who doesn't love having a piece of pizza and a beer delivered to them poolside!) but may be wasted on some of the older passengers who aren't so tech-savvy. The remaining cruisers, a mix of ages, though mostly in the boomer set, invariably give the tech a whirl, especially those with kids in tow during the holidays and school breaks.

On Alaskan sailings, you'll find more first-time cruisers who have chosen the ship for the destination, while on warm-weather sailings, you'll find more repeat passengers. Americans dominate, on both routes; expect more people from around the entire country in Alaska and a more local audience when the ship sails from a U.S. homeport. A nice choice for people who love a traditional cruise's comforts and rituals, Royal Princess is big enough, with an impressive array of restaurants, to appeal to first-time cruisers. It's not trendy, but it's hard to be bored here -- that's enough for most Royal Princess passengers.

cruise critic princess board

The Princess Luxury Bed by sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus is one of the comfiest we've experienced at sea. Animal Planet- and Discovery Channel-branded shore excursions were passenger favorites. A Royal Princess review is not complete without a mention of its laid-back, mellow-but-fun atmosphere onboard. Although there are plenty of opportunities to let your hair down, this is more of a classic cruising experience, with activities that range from a full afternoon tea to lively craft cocktail presentations. Bingo, trivia and game shows dominate the daily program and hosts special destination-themed events, like Puppies (or Parrots) in the Piazza, depending on the itinerary. Evening entertainment aboard the Royal Princess is mostly production shows and music events; you can also watch a recent release at Movies Under the Stars.

Where does Royal Princess sail from?

You can also use Cruise Critic's guide to health requirements on the world’s major cruise lines as we know them. Your mistake is that you failed to calculate the actual cost of the cruise. I always add in the cost of the Plus package, because you can't cruise without it unless you are a teetotaler and hate wifi. Do note that aside from the Plus package, I spend almost nothing on the ship. I rarely take a ship excursion, as I prefer to do things on my own. With that said, there is no way for you to avoid adding some expense to this trip.

Is everything free on Princess cruises?

For me, how much you spend depends on the kind of holiday you want to have. Yes, Princess wants you to spend more but they are a business... Our job, as customers if you like, is to only spend what we are happy spending. A small note on "Free at Sea" things from NCL - the taxes/fees tend to be prohibitive. Also, we found some things that are cheap on Princess (bottled water) are much more expensive on NCL. A shame though as I think you and your family will get hooked on cruising if you did give it a try.

Royal Princess is a large cruise ship with a maximum capacity of 3,560 passengers, but crowds are usually not an issue here. You may find some lines and waits at peak dining times – and finding a lounger around the main pool may be a frustrating experience on sunny sea days – but the open-plan spaces, multiple elevators, and ample seating make for good passenger flow. If you’re wondering just how big Royal Princess is, the answer is 1,083 feet long (exactly the length of 3 American football fields) and 260 feet tall. Crown Princess Alaska sailings are hugely popular among those seeking a somewhat less over-the-top experience as that offered by larger cruise ships. The vessel has a lot going for it, including great deck layouts, tons of dining options, and itineraries that include Glacier Bay.

The Crown Princess Ship Offers Good Entertainment Options

What you will find are gregarious sorts who like to travel to new places, sing along with the piano guy in Crooners and have a good laugh at a guest comic's show. Princess Cruises attracts a wide passenger base, but the majority are North Americans. If you sail on the larger Princess ships, you'll meet a range of passengers from solo travelers to big multigenerational family groups. The smaller Princess ships cater to more mature travelers who want longer, more exotic itineraries and need fewer family-friendly elements. Basic research  uncovers the costs are  base fare, optional service charge(£13) and the two optional packages(£50,£65) that include the £13 service. I know people who have simply paid for the cost of the cruise with not a penny more.

Additionally, two other decks (Plaza and Lido) offer a mix of public spaces and cabins, but even then, guest staterooms are all located within their own section, which effectively blocks off the noise in most of them. If you don’t plan to dance or gamble the nights away, the Crown Princess cabins to avoid are those on decks 5 (Plaza) and 8 (Emerald), as they’re subject to noise from loud public spaces such as the casino, the main theater, or restaurants and bars. Having been the first of the Royal Class vessels, the Royal Princess deck plan served as the blueprint for the rest of the ships in its class.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. Community is what makes cruising unique and fun for so many people.

Wondering which port was the "bucket list" on those itineraries. What surprises me is you seem to feel some of this is a surprise and a money grab. It is possible to cruise base fare only and still have  good time and not give Princess a penny more..

From inside cabins all the way to suites, there is a difference of experience. The same goes for packages like Plus and Premier or being a first time passenger with no status versus the seasoned Elite member. There are plenty of cruisers who stick to the standard fare, don't eat at the specialty restaurants, don't drink alcohol, and don't purchase shore excursions directly through Princess. Personally, I don't eat at the specialty restaurants, have my alcoholic drinks at bars while in port, and book my shore excursions independently. We also have around £1k costs to get to the ship before it sails on top of the cruise cost, so make that £10k as a realistic end of cruise price. Some may say, but your getting a 14 day cruise for £x but the longer you're on a ship the more you'll spend too, and the cruise lines know this.

Caribbean Princess draws mostly North American passengers. Age-wise, the ship trends toward boomers and older during the school season; our mid-May sailing had less than a dozen kids on it, but crew members all expected loads of children once school let out. Along with kids come younger couples during the summer months and holidays. The rest of the year, the average age seems to be close to 65, with a smattering of younger couples.

The Best Time to Cruise Alaska: Months to Choose

best time to do an alaskan cruise

Saturday and Sunday cruise departures tend to be busiest during the summer months, particularly for families with children. In late June through mid-August, brown bears and moose come out to feed in ponds, lakes, and along rivers. You may see beluga whales, humpback whales, or pods of orcas who frequent Alaskan waters in the summer, as well as seals and dolphins. Throughout your journey, your captain will position the ship for best viewing from the top deck or your private balcony. Back on the vessel, after a gourmet meal and drinks, evening entertainment is viewing the deep fjords, glaciers, and abundant whales that make Alaska so magical. There’s also complimentary Pilates and yoga, a gym, jogging track, spa, observation library, and a slew of bars and restaurants.

Alaskan Cruises Shut Down In Winter: Here's The Best Way To See The Sights.

How To Pick The Best Time of Year to Cruise to Alaska

If you want to spot herds of caribou, book an Alaska cruise that puts you in range of Denali National Park. And with salmon runs in full force, you can catch fishing bears in the southeast. A suite that costs $2000 per person in May may cost upwards of $3300 per person in mid-July. Such a large price difference allows you to enhance your Alaska cruise experience in other ways, whether booking a once-in-a-lifetime helicopter tour or kayaking through fjords. Ultimately, there is no perfect time to sail to Alaska, as each month offers its own advantages and disadvantages, and choosing when to cruise to Alaska comes down to your preferences.

When is the best time to explore Alaska’s cities and towns?

Some attractions and shops will be closed for winter, though your cruise line will still operate a full roster of shore excursions. On the plus side, you will experience southeast Alaska towns as they are most of the year, sans tourist crowds. Sit in a bar and talk to the locals as they prepare for the long winter ahead.

When do cruises go to Alaska?

If you've got active teens who have an interest in nature and the environment, an expedition voyage could be exactly what will keep them engaged and off their devices. It’s always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, so there’s no harm in reading articles and watching YouTube videos to help you prepare for your Alaska cruise. Nonetheless, it’s helpful to know the basic rules of photography before setting sail. Practice taking pictures at home and watch a few beginner photography tutorials on YouTube to ensure you have the skills needed to take that perfect shot. One must-do before you board an Alaska cruise in 2024 is to pre-purchase these add-ons.

What Are The Best Ports To Visit On An Alaskan Cruise?

You will see plenty of wildlife during your Alaska cruise throughout the cruise season, including whale watching, sea lions, bears, & birds. Most cruise passengers tend to avoid the early season because of the school calendar and cooler weather. By going in the summer months, many people get to enjoy Alaska when things are in full swing and of course the warmer weather. Multiple major cruise lines offer sailings in Alaska, but mainly during the Spring and Summer months. Princess Cruises is one of the main operators, with seven ships sailing the northern region.

Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. Not only is the weather better, you get more hours in the day in the late summer.

Should I Book an Outside Cabin or Balcony?

Check the tour’s cancellation policies—and whether or not they provide a guaranteed arrival back to port before your ship's departure—before booking. Whether you’re confused about what to pack or overwhelmed with the dozens of shore excursion offerings, the planning process can quickly seem more stressful than enjoyable. If you’re trying to squeeze in one last summer vacation before the kids go back to school and life becomes hectic again, opt for a shorter tour portion of the cruisetour. For all your Alaska shore excursions, you’ll want to dress in layers, as the weather can change quickly. If you want to experience the phenomenon of sunlit nights for yourself, the best time to go to Alaska on a cruise is right around the Summer Solstice in the second half of June. Shore excursions are easier to book, so take full advantage of roomier whale-watching cruises and less crowded restaurants.

Although your cruise itinerary might say you arrive at 6AM on disembarkation day, this does not mean you can get off your ship at 6AM. It takes time for your ship to dock, get cleared by local authorities, and prepare for disembarkation. If all goes to plan, you could start disembarking by 7AM, but unexpected delays could cause a later disembarkation time. Due to the popularity of excursions on an Alaska cruise, they can fill up quickly, so it’s important to book excursions well ahead of time. If you have not yet booked excursions for your 2024 Alaska cruise, book them as soon as possible.

best time to do an alaskan cruise

Ice calving is both a thunderous warning of climate change and an incredible phenomenon to behold. The best time to view artic-blue ice plunge into the sea is during the warmest months of June, July, and August at active glaciers. For departures from West Coast gateways, it’s easier to arrive the day of departure and go straight to the ship, but it’s almost always a good idea to fly in the night before to account for the possibility of delays. Arriving in West Coast ports is much easier than arriving in Anchorage, as there are typically flights available throughout the day. With a few exceptions, large-ship Alaska cruises typically operate one-way from Whittier or Seward to Vancouver, or round trip from the West Coast ports of Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.

Blueberries are in season, with berry festivals following, bears roam the hills, and Seward’s Silver Salmon Derby is the perfect place to cast your fishing rod. Cruise bookings can be difficult to come by in July, but with some careful planning ahead, you can secure cabins on either large or small ships. From the coast of Maine, to the mighty Mississippi and Pacific Northwest, our Free Cruise Guide provides detailed information about all of our more than 50 U.S. itinerary options. These sailings take place on the intimate 86-passenger Wilderness Legacy, with cozy but comfortable cabins and unlimited activities and beverages.

Cruises through Alaska's gulf also tend to pass through the Inside Passage, with typical stops including Sitka, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. Some will also call on more off-the-beaten-path ports like Icy Strait Point and Haines. The Inside Passage is a sheltered waterway between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland that extends north to Alaska.

June is the driest month, and the early season is usually drier than the late shoulder season. The ideal time to experience the stunning glaciers of Alaska is during the summer, particularly from June through August. During these months, the warmer temperatures melt much of the winter ice, allowing cruise ships to navigate closer into the Inner Passage and Fjords.

Unless you booked early, cabin choice could be limited — especially if you are looking for a fancy suite or cheap inside cabin, which tend to be the first categories to sell out. At the beginning of the month, you might still be able to find some early season pricing; the peak season for Alaska cruising begins in late June. Each month has its advantages, not the least of which is discounted pricing in the spring and fall shoulder seasons.

Bring a jacket, gloves, and scarves, along with waterproof gear, and sunscreen. Read how to pack for an Alaska cruise to stay comfortable in changing weather. Cruise lines often run sales in the fall or in the early months of the year (a period known in the cruise industry as "wave season"). You can take advantage of discounted fares, free upgrades or complimentary add-ons, such as Wi-Fi, gratuities, restaurant meals, beverage packages and tours.

Alternatively, Gulf of Alaska cruises are typically seven-night, one-way itineraries between Vancouver and Seward or Whittier, the gateway ports for Anchorage and northern destinations in the state. An Alaska cruise from Seattle will visit the Inside Passage but tends to favor the open (and frequently bumpier) Pacific Ocean. Sailings from Vancouver tend to traverse more of the Inside Passage and spend a full day sailing this scenic region. As for land trips, June sees Denali National Park and Kenai Fjords National Park open, both of which offer stunning floatplane and flightseeing adventures.

Whether you’re a novice or an avid angler, Alaska’s rich waters provide an unforgettable salmon fishing adventure. Cruisetours are ideal for travelers who don’t mind a set itinerary and prefer not to deal with the logistics of booking transportation and accommodations (which can be scarce and expensive during peak season) on their own. Specifics vary by company, but in general, cruisetour guests will seamlessly transition between their cruise ship and land, traveling via narrated rail or motorcoach to company-owned lodges. At the lodges, guests can continue booking excursions and activities, similarly to how they would during their cruise.

Royal Caribbean's Cruise Ship Classes

Each of the ships has at least one, and often several, additional specialty restaurants in addition to main restaurants and casual buffets. The line’s signature Chops Grille steakhouse and Italian eatery Giovanni’s Table are two of them. Rhapsody of the Seas has the biggest selection of dining, while Enchantment of the Seas has the smallest.

If you can't live without those sorts of features on a cruise ship, the Radiance class probably isn't for you. Like the Freedom-class ships, Voyager-class vessels are best for cruisers who want an active cruise experience without having to be on a massive ship. Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, and Mariner of the Seas make up the Voyager Class. These ships are perfect for the budget conscious traveler, as they often sail shorter itineraries that help keep nightly rates low. Other favorites include the Schooner Bar, a piano bar with immaculate vibes and live entertainment, and the Viking Crown Lounge, and cocktail lounge with panoramic, floor-to-ceiling windows. These engineering wonders take home awards every year for their cutting-edge design, first-of-their-kind attractions, world class dining and accommodations, and unforgettable experiences.

Freedom Class ships

Think bumper car showdowns at the largest activity space at sea, SeaPlex®. A reimagined pool deck with two resort-style pools perfect for kicking back or making a splash. And all kinds of never-before-seen ways to fill every sea day with adventure. Welcome aboard a cruise ship that raises the bar in every way imaginable. From deck-defying thrills to scene-stealing entertainment and tantalizing global cuisine, Quantum of the Seas® offers countless opportunities to make every second onboard epic.

Arcade & kids activities

Like Explorer of the Seas, the full amplification of Adventure of the Seas has been delayed. When the Royal Amplified program restarts, though, many of Royal Caribbean's newest dining venues, bars, and activities are expected to be added to the ship. Adventure of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas both have a kids area on the pool deck.

Theses ships were also the first to feature Royal Caribbean’s adult-only Solarium. Launched between 2007 and 2008, they were the first ships to introduce the FlowRider surf simulator to the cruise industry. Freedom-class ships also have rock climbing walls, mini-golf courses and multiple restaurants like their bigger Oasis-class siblings, but with a capacity of around 4,000 passengers. Royal Caribbean upped their dining game on the massive Oasis-class ships, with eight to 10 free restaurants and as many as 15 fee or a la carte options if you count bars with food menus. The restaurant lists contain new specialty dining venues like Port Side BBQ on Oasis and Mason Jar on Wonder plus the top-deck Vue Bar.

Each has Chops Grille, Johnny Rockets, and Giovanni's Table specialty restaurants. Freedom of the Seas features an updated version of the Italian restaurant and new menu, known as Giovanni's Italian Table. Independence of the Seas has an expansive Playmakers Sports Bar area to watch the game from, as well as a very large Izumi Hibachi room. Liberty of the Seas is the only ship in the class to have a Mexican cuisine restaurant at Sabor. From our tours of Icon of the Seas, it's clear Royal Caribbean continues to perfect its family-friendly ships with their Icon-class.

From the tallest slide at sea, to culinary concepts that take guests from Japan to Italy to Wonderland, the world’s largest cruise ships are full of adventures guaranteed to wow every kind of explorer. The Voyager-class ships are similar to the Freedom-class ships, but shorter in length. These ships have many of Royal Caribbean’s signature attractions, including rock climbing walls and ice skating rinks. In fact, the ships were the first at Royal Caribbean to have those attractions. Around half of all Royal Caribbean cruise ships have ice skating rinks onboard where you can go ice skating and watch professional ice shows.

Three of the four vessels, all but Enchantment of the Seas, have an Izumi Asian restaurant. Unlike other Royal Caribbean ships, the Vision Class ships do not have the signature deck-top attractions such as surfing and skydiving simulators. However, they do have pools, whirlpools, and sunning areas on their top decks. All of the ships have at least two pools and six whirlpools, except for Enchantment of the Seas, which has three pools and six whirlpools.

He oversees all the writers at Royal Caribbean Blog, and writes a great deal of content on a daily basis. Freedom Class ships are essentially a slightly larger version of their Voyager Class sisters. Oasis Class ships are among the newest Royal Caribbean ships, so they are packed with the latest and greatest. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear.

Inside the fitness center locker rooms on Vision Class ships are showers, a sauna, and a steam room. These facilities are complimentary for guests to use throughout the cruise. On newer Royal Caribbean ship classes, guests must purchase a spa pass to access the sauna and steam rooms, so this is a great benefit of sailing on a Vision Class ship. While Adventure of the Seas has not undergone a full amplification process, she does have a few features that are usually only seen on newer or amplified ships. The Perfect Storm waterslides and Splashaway Bay were added in 2016, which offer more fun for both kids and adults onboard.

In addition to original production shows in the Royal Theater, Vision Class ships provide a wide range of additional entertainment, from vocalists to comedians, live bands, game shows, guest lectures, and more. Enchantment of the Seas also has a 65 foot suspension bridge on each side of the pool deck, allowing guests to cross over the pool deck area from above. Select Voyager Class ships have a Peek-A-Boo bridge, where guests can peek into the bridge and see what the ship’s captain and officers are up to.

The line’s remaining eight vessels, split among two classes, are smaller, with maximum occupancy topping out at around 2,500 passengers. While no longer the focus at Royal Caribbean, the smaller ships (which in general are the line’s older ships) allow it to offer itineraries to places that aren’t as easy for big ships to visit. A year ago last August, I embarked my first Royal Caribbean cruise on Mariner of the Seas. Since then, I’ve spent 67 nights on 12 Royal Caribbean cruise ships, traveled to 25 different ports, accumulated 141 Crown & Anchor Society points, and made countless memories around the world. Royal Caribbean’s Royal Genies are available to guests staying in Star Class suites on Icon-class, Oasis-class and Quantum-class ships.
